International house is a place, where everyone would admire to be, atleast staying for a single day. This is a place where almost each country is being represented. It has something in common with UN, having representatives from all countries on the universe. Knowing this, there are alots of events taking place, among others, is the All Nations Celebrations Day. This is a kind of a fundraising event for the development and improvement of I.H community and during day, each nation, prepares the tradition food.

In I.H, there are four Ugandan, what a huge representation with the fabulous flag raised at the maximum. We had to decide on what to cook, that would, if someone gets a piece of it, would make him/her as if was in Uganda. We decided to cook the “Katogo kamuwogo” (casava mixed with beans), “Katogo ka’matooke” (banana mixed with beaf), “Omugoyo” (mashed sweat potato) and “Ekibumba” beaf liver. These are one of the greatest meals you can enjoy when get to Uganda. I managed to get for you some pictures of what we cooked on the day.

The history of Uganda, is reflected several years back, during the times of the explorers. This very great nation with fabulous views, was given a couple of names from the Queen of England. Among others was the L.Victoria. This is a great lake with a lot of history most importantly being the source of the longest river (R.Nile). For your information, this river flows all the way from Uganda, through Sudan, Egypt and finally in the Med sea.

I would say from my own perspective, that visiting Uganda and you don’t reach any point attached to the victoria, you have not visited the great, ever green nation. You should take time visiting the source of the nile, the new falls which are few miles away from the nile and this is Bujagali falls and the lake beaches probably.

This is the sample look of the waters of the victoria;

Having struggled with the visa, while still in Uganda, I finally made it to my placement in New York, United States of America. It was such hardwork, pulling of muscles for both the World Education Corps and I to secure a US visa. It was a big relief that I finally secured the visa.

It was such an experience because since it was my first time attending a visa interview and you can imagine starting your interview for the visa at the US or UK consulate. These are the toughest consulates in the country.

I made it to New York on 05th October, 2005. At the JFK airport, I was received by Ed Gragert, the Executive Director of iEARN. While still at home, I was told that, I was going to stay at International House (I.H) and having read through I.H profile, you can imagine how curious I was to arrive at I.H. I finally arrived at I.H on the night of 05th october. It’s an amazing place with all people from almost all parts of the world. Infact I.H could be related to United Nations. It’s a community that makes you feel pretty much at home.

I begun slowly emerging from the jet-lag and quickly establish myself as a popular I.H resident by involving in different activities including tutoring and playing soccer.
In brief, that’s my journey to New york ………………..

Thanks for reading this and welcome you to visit my blog again.
